12/09/14 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its final rules on menu labeling and calorie disclosure
by Terry Smith, NFBEI & NAMA Government Affairs
Dear NAMA Member,
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its final rules on menu labeling and calorie disclosure yesterday.
Our team has been diligently working to review the 130-page rule on calorie disclosure requirements applicable to vending. As promised, we have put together a synopsis of the rule and what it means for the industry. Click here for the synopsis. http://namavoice.org/federal-issues/calorie-disclosure-rules
Important note: this is a preliminary summary of the rules to provide you with a general overview as quickly as possible. We will share more detail and guidance following the Thanksgiving holiday.
NAMA is pleased that “front of pack” language – similar to what we proposed and what was adopted by the U.S. House Appropriations Committee – was included in the final rule. Also, that the vending channel was allocated a longer compliance time frame than any other affected industry. This is a solid indication that our industry’s voice was heard and is a win for our member companies.
We will continue to share updates as we obtain them, so please keep a close eye on NAMA email, website and social media communications for the latest information.
Sincerely,
Eric Dell
NAMA SVP of Government Affairs
